5 Books and a Pen

Imagine the world without people Imagine an artist without his brush Imagine a farmer without tools ...

Imagine a student with no books!

This is our biggest project so far. It is held every September when schools are resuming a new academic session. This project has the following objectives:

  1. To enhance the children’s learning process by providing writing materials, e.g. books, pens, pencils, textbooks, erasers, sharpeners etc.
  2. To provide pairs of sandals and socks to these children who walk to school on bare feet.
  3. To empower these children with knowledge of the value and need of education.
  4. To inspire them to develop their skills, e.g. in arts and creative writing.
  5. To encourage them to perform better in academics by awarding those outstanding in academic performance.

As at 2020, we have executed three successful editions of 5 Books and A Pen project each year since 2017 in different schools, having far-reaching impacts. For the past three years, an aggregate of about 3,000 pupils have benefitted from this project.

The three schools that have benefited from this project are:

  • L.E.A. Primary School, Dagiri, Gwagwalada, Abuja
  • L.E.A. Primary School, Agwandodo, Gwagwalada, Abuja
  • Sharing Prosperity School, IDP Camp, New Kuchingoro, Abuja

The major project activities include:

  1. Educating each class of pupils on the value of education;
  2. Awarding of academic scholarships to brilliant but indigent pupils and orphans;
  3. Distribution of writing materials- books, pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, etc. to each pupil;
  4. Distribution of schooling materials to selected pupils - school bags, sandals, socks, textbooks, etc.;
  5. Distribution of snacks to each pupil, etc.

So far, we have had an aggregate of 45 scholarship awardees from our 5 Books and A Pen project, some of whom are sponsored directly by individuals and by organisations such as KultureGames.

This project has had the impact of arming children in school with materials necessary to aid their learning, sponsoring the education of indigent and brilliant children, robing children with school bags, socks, school sandals for greater morale in school, etc.
