PROJECT REPORT - FEED A THOUSAND INITIATIVE 2020
The project commenced at 11:00am on the 28th of December 2020, with members of The Potters Children Global (PCG) Foundation and the IBI Foundation meeting at Optima Filling Station, after the Zaria-Kano pedestrian bridge, Gwagwalada, Abuja. While members of both foundations exchanged pleasantries, the media team began taking pictures, videos and pre-interviews.
Following this, the vice-president of PCG assigned roles to volunteers present. Banners were set up and the edibles (cooked food packs, drinks and water) were taken to the top of the bridge where distribution was to take place. Food distribution commenced at 12:00pm lasting for 40 minutes. The beneficiaries of the project comprised mostly children, with a considerable amount of women and men. All beneficiaries were properly guided by volunteers in a single file as they proceeded to receive food, drinks and water in an orderly manner. The children appeared happy receiving our gifts as their faces lit up with smiles. A few of them also expressed direct appreciation.
Additionally, the security of both beneficiaries and volunteers was ensured as police officers were present. There was thus, no case of violence or theft observed in the premises. After the distribution of food and drinks was completed, volunteers and members present all expressed their satisfaction on the outcome of the project.
On Saturday, the 26th of December 2020, The Potters Children Global (PCG) Foundation team of members and volunteers assigned for the market shopping arrived Gwagwalada market at 1:34pm to purchase ingredients and other essentials for the project. Shopping was successful as each item was purchased and at good prices. Volunteers were also taken to Citymart Mall in Gwagwalada to get refreshments after which volunteers that returned to their houses.
On Sunday, the 27th of December 2020, volunteers began preparations around 1:00pm. The meat was washed, boiled and fried. The tomato paste was also boiled and fried after which volunteers rested, ate and entertained themselves with movies and games.
Final food preparation took place on the 28th of December 2020. Preparations began at 5:00am as volunteers began with the soaking, washing and cooking of the rice (jollof rice). The fried meat was also sautéed in stew. Following the cooking, the jollof rice and meat were packaged in takeaway packs and arranged in sacks at about 10:00am. After the food packaging, the team left for the project venue around 10:30am.
